experience the uppercuts way

OUR VALUES

At Uppercuts, animal welfare and ethical sourcing are at the heart of everything we do.

Our philosophy is simple: farm to table, naturally.

We proudly source free-range, grass-fed, and minimally processed produce from trusted Australian farms and suppliers who share our commitment to quality and care.

With deep roots in German and Italian food heritage, our team brings decades of industry experience and old-world traditions to the table — blending hands-on craft with a modern passion for sustainability.

Whether it’s our in-house made sausages or curated gourmet goods, we believe in feeding our community the way we feed our families: with honesty, heart, and a whole lot of flavour.

OUR HISTORY

Uppercuts was founded on July 15, 2015, with the opening of our original Bentleigh store.

A family-owned business with over 40 years of combined experience, Uppercuts was built on a shared passion for high-quality, grass-fed and free-range produce, sourced ethically and with care.

From the beginning, our vision has been farm-to-table with a focus on animal welfare, natural practices, and minimal intervention—good food done right.

Our German and Italian roots run deep, bringing a rich tradition of food-making into everything we do. Tate’s passion for German-style smallgoods and our handcrafted Italian sausages reflect a lifelong love of flavour, craftsmanship, and culture.

As the community embraced our approach, we proudly expanded to Hawthorn in April 2023, and Toorak in July 2024.

At every location, our mission remains the same: to serve our community with unfailing quality, warm service, and food that brings people together.

choosing uppercuts means choosing grass fed for life

What does "grass-fed for life" mean? It means the animal spent its entire life munching on grass and roaming pastures, without a single grain in its diet.

This approach results in meat that's not only leaner but also packed with more omega-3 fatty acids. It also supports animal welfare and sustainable farming.

If you're seeking clean, nutritious, and naturally raised meat, this is an excellent choice!

BEEF 100% Australian, No USA Beef, Ever!

Our Beef is sourced Through and conforms to the JBS Farm Assurance program, which adheres to strict “grass-fed for life” protocols. Raised without added hormones or unnecessary antibiotics, these cattle enjoy a natural life in the pastures of Gippsland and the Murray Valley. The result? Tender, flavourful beef that’s as clean and ethical as it is delicious.

We also stock seasonal grass-fed veal from Victorian farms — available fresh between June and October.

LAMB

Our lamb is raised across the lush Gippsland region. We proudly offer Saltbush Dorper lambs, a unique breed that doesn’t grow wool, meaning they require less handling and fewer chemical treatments. Bred for meat, not wool, our lamb is naturally lean, grass-fed, and raised under leading animal welfare practices to ensure a healthy, stress-free life.

CHICKEN

Our chicken is FREPA-accredited Free Range and sourced from central Victoria. These birds are corn-fed, free to forage amongst natural vegetation, and raised without GMOs, antibiotics, or any enhancers. It’s real chicken — healthy, happy, and full of flavour.

PORK

We stock APIQ-certified Free Range pork, known for it’s rich flavour and excellent marbling. Our pigs roam freely, raised without added hormones or growth promotants — just clean air, open paddocks, and the highest standards of ethical care. All pork is 100% Australian.

SAUSAGES

Our sausages are made in-house at our East Bentleigh and Toorak stores, using only free-range meat and natural ingredients. We use natural pork and sheep casings for our gourmet sausages, and collagen casings for our plain beef BBQ varieties. Whether you're after a gourmet blend or a classic snag, we make it with pride.

SMALLGOODS

We source premium smallgoods from trusted names like Barossa Fine Foods, Marchetti, Peter Bouchier, and Azzuri, focusing on free-range and nitrate-free options wherever possible. From traditional salami and prosciutto to nitrite-free ham, our selection reflects our values: natural, authentic, and flavour-first.

EGGS

Our free-range eggs come from Gippsland, Victoria, where hens roam at no more than 250 per hectare — well below industry standard. These locally laid eggs are a staple on our shelves and a reflection of our commitment to ethical, fresh produce. We are occasionally required to source eggs from alternate farms in times of shortage, but we always ensure they are free-range and ethically sourced.

SEAFOOD

We partner with Regal Seafoods at South Melbourne Market to bring you the best of local, sustainable seafood. Ethically sourced and traceable, our fish carries the blue fish tick – the global symbol for certified sustainable seafood. Whether it’s for Christmas prawns or an Easter feast, our seafood is fresh, responsibly harvested, and proudly Australian.

GOURMET

Explore our handpicked range of gourmet pantry staples, featuring both local favourites and premium international brands. From artisan sauces and mustards to quality pasta, gourmet passata, and specialty canned fish — everything you need to elevate everyday meals. We also carry a handpicked selection of Italian wines, each bottle labelled with its region of origin to help you explore the best of Italian vineyards.

GYROS

We also offer Gyros, made from grass-fed, free-range meat, using an award-winning marinade passed down from the original creators — the same one supplied to renowned restaurants and souvlakaries across Melbourne. Spit hire is available from our Bentleigh East store.

why choose free range?

BETTER ANIMAL WELFARE

Free-range animals have more space to move and engage in natural behaviors. They are less likely to suffer from stress, overcrowding, or inhumane treatment.

MORE NATURAL DIET

Free-range animals eat a more natural diet, which can improve the quality of their meat. Grass-fed and pasture-raised animals often have leaner meat with better nutritional profiles.

SUPPORTS ETHICAL FARMING PRACTICES

Buying free-range meat supports farmers who prioritize humane and sustainable practices. It encourages a shift away from factory farming, which is often criticized for its negative impact.

REDUCES OVERUSE OF ANTIBIOTICS

Factory-farmed animals are often given antibiotics to prevent disease in crowded conditions. Reducing antibiotic use in farming helps combat antibiotic resistance in humans.

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS

Free-range farming can promote more sustainable land use and biodiversity. Less reliance on intensive farming practices reduces pollution and soil degradation.

BETTER TASTE & QUALITY

Many people find free-range meat has better texture and flavor due to the animals’ healthier lifestyles. More natural feeding and exercise contribute to improved meat quality.

HEALTHIER MEAT

Free-range meat often contains higher levels of essential nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids. Fewer antibiotics and hormones are used compared to factory-farmed meat.
